Illustration Friday: Under the Sea
My submission for Illustration Friday's theme "Under the Sea" is from my 2001 HomeMade calendar. The title is "Beach House". The sand castle always ends up back under the sea but I enjoy them while they last. I actually have a great underwater painting but it is on film and I need to have it scanned. If this can be accomplished I will post it. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. The quote is: " A man's house is his castle" ~old proverbor " A woman's home is her castle"~ new proverb
Fun! Love the bright colors.
ReplyDeleteNicely done Val. I love making sand castles. They usually take a few hours to make and then the kids have a blast destroying it in seconds.
ReplyDeleteGreat,Val! I love the blue water...would like to be sitting there right now! 'hope you are able to scan your other one, too!
ReplyDeleteVal! Wonderful illo, so playful and happy! I always get excited when I see you've posted and you never dissapoint :-)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh Val, it is SO perfect!!! The colors so bright and the message so strong and happy.
ReplyDeleteVery peaceful. I smiled.

ReplyDeletekooky crazy ooh la la. do more.
ReplyDeleteThere is always a dreamy qyality in your pieces odf Art, Valgalart.
ReplyDeleteReally nice...as susual:-)
lovely picture! Here they say: "An Englishman's home is his castle!"
ReplyDeleteAnd I am sure that even a Bedouin's tent is his castle!
It's how we feel inside that makes all the difference!
wow beautiful illustration :o)
ReplyDeleteThis makes me think of being a child and playing in the sand! Everything looks so happy and sunny, and the castle is magical:> I think what makes sand castles extra special is that they are so ephemeral...things of beauty, often created with painstaking attention to dteail, and then...they're gone!
ReplyDeleteSo nice castle on the beach. Like the proverbs ... Always a theme for each week ;) Nice work and I´m thinking of going calendering .....
ReplyDeleteRegards from Spain
This is so sweet! It's been too long since I made a sand castle...
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteA man's home is his castle, until he gets married.

I like your sand castle and thanks for your comment and yes you can link me and sorry for the late answer...
ReplyDelete:o))
This is quite nice. And a safer place to be is above the sea.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Love the shadows on the sand and castle... How come my sandcastles always end up looking like four piles of upside-down sandpails?
ReplyDeleteYour sand castle looks like it can stand through tides and sea breezes, so warm and fine this piece! The little sail boat barely seen at the horizon is wonderful.
ReplyDeletei love the castle home you have created! so colorful and lively.
ReplyDeletei would like to live there...between the tides!
Beautiful illustration, and I have to agree with the new proverb!
ReplyDeletewonderful, refreshing!
ReplyDeletei can feel the breeze.....
cannot wait to see the other one!

That's just magical.
ReplyDeleteI sat on the beach for the first time this year last Wednesday, and that was the exact atmosphere - everythign was magical and almost glwoing :)
I enjoy your artwork so very much! This is wonderful! I love your very distinct style! All the pieces of yours I have seen have a warm and friendly quality to them that I really like!

ReplyDeleteyour illo has all the elements - sea, sun, sand (the three magic s) and the human presence with ball and the castle

Making fun
On the run
Around the edge of land!
It's amazing you always have some sort of house for illustration friday topics! I love that. I'm just reading a great children's book called "A House Is a House for Me" by Mary Ann Hoberman, illustrated by Betty Fraser.
ReplyDeleteCheck it out, and thanks for expanding my view of what a house can be.
Beautiful - fantastic luminous colours!
ReplyDeleteWell Not MY castle, after all it will get washed away by waves! Lovely illo - are there sand people inside?
ReplyDeleteLovely, great matching quotes too.
ReplyDeleteYet another very inviting house! The sky is great, too-- like the variated shades!
ReplyDeleteLove it, as usual!!! The colors are so vibrant...and love the little added touches, like the sailboat in the back! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer can't come soon enough this year...thanks for reminding me it isn't too far away. Another fun and overall lovely illustration! How many different types of "homes" would you say you've painted over the years?
ReplyDeleteHopefully this wonderful home doesn't end up under-the-sea. I love the contrasting colors!
ReplyDeletehow perfect for the beginning of the summer!
ReplyDeleteThis is very imaginative interpretation – sandcastles that start and end under the sea…
ReplyDeleteI love it. Zen moment in the middle of Monday. Thanks!
beautiful warmth illo!! Love your interpretation!
ReplyDeleteVal, Your castle is fit for a Queen. Wonderful illo.
ReplyDeleteAm already enjoying the waves. Wonderful. What would we do without U? ; )

ReplyDeleteI like the sly details... the ship slipping over the horizon... the lovely lacy waves... thanks for your affirmation of my under "C" example, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat Val! Your pieces always have a distinct feel about them--someone above said dreamy; and that's true; but there is something else to them as well. I just can't think of the word. Your work is alway great to see.
