Illustration Friday: 80's

My submission for Illustration Friday's "80's" is from a silkscreened limited edition I printed in 1984. The title is "Blind Date" and it is at least 16 colours that I can count right now. I will look it up to be exact but it's a lot of passes under the screen, registration is tight, probably 150 sheets of paper went under the screen at least 16 times. I buried colour to create the shag carpet and did transparent white to change 16 colours into 32! Last year I submitted Strangers in the Night and I did a post called I never forget a face. Blind Date is the 3rd and final print of this little portfolio. I spent most of the 80's learning how to print and making lots of prints.

  7. That's awesome! Silkscreen printing is something I never really got the hang of, but when I did give it a shot three colors was hard enough.

  14. I sound like a broken record every time I come here but I am always awed by the magnitude and range of your artistic talent. Is there anything you cannot do?

  15. Registration...registration...registration...now THAT'S talent! You're hired!
If I had to do this...I'd be in a white coat--I'm impressed!

Wow! Brings me back again to my college apartment circa 1983-85 when I had all of these on our living room walls. We were by far the hippest apartment in Provo!

I believe we also got in trouble for some of the racier themes. :)

  34. I knew you'd have cool stuff for this theme. Have you ever heard of the Chicago Imagist's? Did I ask you this before? Anyway, they kinda started in the 70's and made a mark in the 80's Chicago. These have such a time and place and feel to them. They are great.

I love the top one with all the "outfits". It is the best. You always impress me with how many passages you do with the silk screening. I feel like it is getting hardcore at 9!

  39. Love it! I love the look- very 80s indeed!

  40. good concept, well executed. I did a printmaking course back then, but was so technically inept! Also, I felt ill from the fumes. Thank god for photoshop!
