My submission for Illustration Friday's "Communication" is from a dimensional painting called "NightHawk". I posted this September 2006 with a story about how this piece came to be, but I didn't post it on IF. My inspiration was this hawk in an alley in Santa Monica on a telephone pole. I see hawks all the time in Topanga but it is unique to see them in an industrial area where it was spotted. This painting was purchased by a woman who collects my work and was used as an invitation/promotional card for a show I had in Pacific Palisades. I posted this card "Phone Home" in July 2006 for the "Opposites" theme.

ReplyDeleteOh Val, your lovely creations are endless. I just love this one and incorporating the hawk you spotted in the city makes it even more special. I see them too in power lines in the freeway. I gushed over them one day and it thrills me that they adapt.
ReplyDeleteSherry Rogers said it right. Each house has a personality of their own. You would think that a house is a house but each is so special. I love the details and I relish spending time spotting them in every artwork you create.

ReplyDeleteThis post is so great! Annie and I were just commenting yesterday on all the big hawks on the power line towers down here. They were HUGE! And one day they were up top with their wings spread out- sunning themselves. At first we didn't know if they were real or not--but since they weren't there the next day, guess so.
When I lived up in my little cottage in the woods near Canada, I had this one HUGE Bald Eagle that lived up in the douglas fir in my front yard. He'd be up there constantly chirtling away during mating season, looking for a babe! Funny....
Hawks are amazing creatures! I like your moody evening houses.
