Illustration Friday: Flying

My submission for Illustration Friday's "Flying" theme is the cover of my 2004 HomeMade Calendar. The image is titled "Flying Home". I have not shown this version but I had to use this for the prompt because it is a signature image for me and I have done this very painting in 4 colour combos, I have made several dimensional versions and a variation of this idea has graced my stationary & business cards. The card below is a reversed version of the stationary card I submitted a few weeks ago. When I have time I try to paint the image I am working on in reverse so I have two versions and I fleshed out the windows a bit more so you can tell these butterflies are houses. This fits the flying theme well too.

Today I had John choose a winner from the pool of submissions for the Uprinting Greeting Card Giveaway and Diana Evans is the winner and she will receive 250 greeting cards!!! I will receive a set for sponsoring this contest on my blog. Tonight I will launch a new Uprinting Giveaway where 2 of my friends will receive 250 business cards so please keep trying because you are bound to win one of these gifts and all you have to do is tell me what you will do with your printed item and who you plan on giving them to :) Thank you to all you girls that participated and Congratulations Diana!!!

Hi Valerie,

I was wondering how you would get a house to fly. Yup, you did it. Anything is possible in the imagination and in the hands of a talented artist.

Valerie, this is fantastic, a flying house, the colors in this are so yummy too. I want to live in the house with the heart on the door (but only if it can fly too).
Congrats to Diana.
As for the business cards, well I would give them out to clients.
Have a beautiful weekend

Hey Val ttv stand for Through The Viewfinder, you get a lovely old camera with one of those big rustic lenses and take a picture with your digital camera through it.
Andrea from Hula Seventy did a great post about it here: http://hulaseventy.blogspot.com/search?q=ttv

This is wonderful and so much fun to look at. I do see some elements I recognize and love that you would paint this over in other colors. I can almost hear the flap flap as the house heads for home.

I love to see what you do for IF Val! The colours in this are super and I just love the little kitty waiting there - could be my mine! By the way, thanks for your comment regarding Timbuktu - I couldn't believe it was in the very young children's section and went back to the shop to point out that it shouldn't be!!

Sheepers, I really miss out on some fantastic stuff when I take these long breaks from blogging. Look at all your wonderful work with all the housie goodness! I wish my house had wings, I'd fly it back to Hawaii for at least another week!
