My submission for Illustration Friday's " subterreanean" theme is an idea that I started to work on quite a while ago, i think two summers ago I was planning on working out this painting called "DownTown" but I was sidetracked by so many other "Houscapes", paintings. greeting cards, etc. Sometimes this happens, I have a lot of ideas just not enough time to get it done. I try to use the summer as my time to do art and ideas that I have wanted to explore and I always have the best of intentions. I hope I can get back to this some time in the future. This painting shows me, I might have lived in Topanga a little to long. I started thinking the ants and bugs and rodents have little condos and it is like a little underground town. I am sure that I am right ;) On a side note sometimes when I create an image in a layered dimensional way I do a flat illustration as well so I have one version for a reproduction image and a dimensional image as well. So that gives me two unfinished pieces I need to work on :P Happy Friday!

I agree, the little creatures of the insect and animal kingdoms must have complete subterranean neighborhoods like these! Thanks for sharing your wip. I hope you're able to find the time to complete this- It looks like it's going to be really great!
Better not make those little houses too cozy or the buggies will move in!
(Build it and they will come)
You'll then be obligated to have ant tea parties and build schools for all the Lady Bugs' kids.
What I love most about this is the refernce to the deatils of your working life and thought processes. I also love that your deck is built around a tree! :)
Totally cool studio shot...some of the neatest images are those of work on the table...it's how we live, eh? Always work on the table. That's how we know we're doing it right.
;o)
PILES! We love em!
beautiful
:-)
Oooooooh! I love your studio. Look at all those bottles of paints. I would never get anything done. I'll just play with the art supplies! Hahaha!
Loved seeing your work in progress - you gotta finish that sometime!! I too envision comfortable residences for all those little creatures!
You mean the ants and bugs DONT have their own little town? I'm pretty sure I saw that in a movie somewhere!
:)
Do they get pillows and tea pots as well?
oh my gosh its so cute and so perfect for this weeks theme.
I'd love to see it finished one day!
I too love the studio shots. And there is always a party happening downtown!
What an amazing project! I love your studio view and I see we use some of the same art products! You are such an inspiration! Keep up the wonderful work!
Oh, I hope you get back to this one. The whole feeling here is so personal. I love the beginnings here and the soft tones. I know that DOWN town will be fantastic when it is finished.
i knew you'd do a totally cool house like this. can't wait to see the finished piece!
Perfect for the theme! Can't wait to see it finished.

Beautiful WIP - and exactly on the spot for the prompt - do please share when it's completed.

Nice idea Val, look forward to seeing it when it's completed.... if it's ever completed ;). Keep rockin' lady.
I love this idea of an underground town, with condos of ants and other bugs ... this reminds me of a lovely children's book by Walter Moers "The City of Dreaming Books"!!!
