Illustration Friday: Cake

click for a close-up view

My Submission for Illustration Friday's Cake is from my 2003 HomeMade calendar. The title of this painting is "Home Baked" and is for the month of June. You know, a June wedding? The quote is: A House is not beautiful because of it's walls but because of it's cakes. ~old Russian proverb~

I guess that´s why they call some Russian architecture "sugar cake"! (Like the style of the Russian embassy in Berlin.) This is a very romantic entry, with the swans in the foreground as the perfect symbol for a life-long marriage. A perfect June entry!

What a beautiful piece of work! The details and the amazing delicate colors you chose-I love that pond. Kind of a shame these two lovebirds are going to take up residence, because the cake really does look good enough to eat. Love the grooms top hat and tails.

Another beautiful illustration. Your illustrations all have a lovely dreamy quality about them. Plus you always use wonderful color schemes. Great job

You must live in the most beautiful house of all. This one is yummy....but what is yours like? Is it surrounded by rose bushes and trees full of birds singing their little hearts out? Are there blue skies above and pretty pink and white clouds?

Your illustration is delightfully delicious!

Lovely illo! And I love the Russian saying!
The content rather than the container!

Hi Val, we have the same idea this week. We tried to go up to the Topanga Canyon Fair on Monday, but it was too crowded! We couldn't even get the shuttle. Darn. Happy illo friday.

This is such a sweet sentiment for a wedding ~ a cake house! I love the delicateness of the flowers and the swans add to the elegance. Looks like Happily Ever After should look!

Another beautiful illustration, Val. The colors and flowers in this one give it an almost Indian feel. Thanks for your kind comments about Trowbridge. I DO plan on bringing Mrs. T back as often as possible. I've enjoyed IF so much that I don't want to leave for good.

Not only does the cakehouse get nice scenery, but the ducks get a snack for when they get the munchies!

'Honeymoon, keep a-shinin' in June...' that line from "Shine on Harvest Moon" popped into my head as soon as I saw this illustration. Beautiful.

Oh, and thanks for the comments on the elves in my cake... Yes, Doctor, now I'm seeing faces in there, too! All thanks to you! Now where did I put those drugs from my lost youth? Maybe they can make the faces go away.

Twisselman said...

Wait a minute! You didn't say you saw elves... You said you saw Elvis! Okay, now that makes a lot more sense. Sorry for the misread on my part.
