My submission for Illustration Friday's "Citrus" is from one of my Marisol greeting cards.Citrus is a common theme in California. When I was a little girl there were rows and rows of citrus trees in Orange County, hence the name.Life was slow and wonderful and you could smell the little white blossoms of the orange groves. This picture reminds me of the many missions I frequented as a child, another thread that runs through this state. In this picture I combined two of the highlights I see in my mind when I think of this sunny clime.
So sorry the painting looks so fuzzy it's behind glass.

Nicely done. Very serene and pretty. Do I get a massage? :)
Your art always warms my heart!! So you get the fruit of my blossoms :)
Beautiful atmosphere with that open arch leading towards the turqoise. So relaxing!

I love this card, actually all of your cards in your collection. they are so special and the messages even make them more special. I like the hedges, the fruits sticking out of the trees, the butterflies and the purple pool catching the water from the statue. I love how you painted the water. At last the butterflies, they are so free. I don't know what it is about symmetrical things and tailored gardens that attract me to them - but of course I just love all kinds of garden.
I sound like a broken record but I just love everything you do.
Hi Val! Slowly the smells of our youth are being replaced with progress. You have such wonderful and fun work!
This one really pulled me in to a place I'd like to be !
Gorgeous and so warm. I love your colour scheme as always!
Magical and beautiful. I love the tone and the sense of peaceful calm.

Lovely, lovely work Val, your work always ispires me!! Back from my art trip so making the rounds to some blogs - pop over to see some mixed media *goodies* if you get a chance :)
Dear Valerie, I've got to say: Great illustration, great text!
Lovely soft painting. I too grew up in SO CA, my Dad worked at a hotel in Anahiem in the middle of a orange grove. Your painting reminds me of both the hotel garden and the grove.
warm and charming!
Great illo. Remember me to Granada, Spain. Land of orange and moros art!!
I too like the cards in your collection. Lovely!
i received one of your marisol cards in the mail and i will treasure it. the fact that it came from my best friend (guess who, val) was matched by seeing your always joyful and inspiring art work. i am looking at the card right this minute and smiling!!
:)
This exudes such an aura of mystery! Gorgeous!
hi darling, just passing threw to see whats going on,it has been a long week.xxoo
Very nice tribute to two of the best things about California. I live within a half-hour of three of the missions... San Juan Bautista, Carmel, and Soledad. Sadly, those citrus groves down in Orange County are few and far between now... making room for Dizzyland and houses.
Beautiful illustration.
your pictures consistently
pull me in! i can smell the oranges and imagine myself there!
Fabulous, Valerie! I notice a particular sensitivity when illustrators tap into childhood memories for content. It's like a mini visit back to a loving world. I always love your entries but this one in particular speaks to me! Thanks for the zap of good vibe to start my day!
Lovely!!
Val, stop by my blog and read what I wrote about you.
I love the bright and bold colors you use in your art. Very pretty!
OOh.... I want to go there. I need that kind of vacation-- orange blossom paradise!!
Hi Val,
It’s beautiful and good oranges and lemons, but at home these trees don’t make fruits… It does not make hot enough!
