Illustration Friday: Citrus

My submission for Illustration Friday's "Citrus" is from one of my Marisol greeting cards.Citrus is a common theme in California. When I was a little girl there were rows and rows of citrus trees in Orange County, hence the name.Life was slow and wonderful and you could smell the little white blossoms of the orange groves. This picture reminds me of the many missions I frequented as a child, another thread that runs through this state. In this picture I combined two of the highlights I see in my mind when I think of this sunny clime.

So sorry the painting looks so fuzzy it's behind glass.

I love this card, actually all of your cards in your collection. they are so special and the messages even make them more special. I like the hedges, the fruits sticking out of the trees, the butterflies and the purple pool catching the water from the statue. I love how you painted the water. At last the butterflies, they are so free. I don't know what it is about symmetrical things and tailored gardens that attract me to them - but of course I just love all kinds of garden.

I sound like a broken record but I just love everything you do.

Lovely soft painting. I too grew up in SO CA, my Dad worked at a hotel in Anahiem in the middle of a orange grove. Your painting reminds me of both the hotel garden and the grove.

Very nice tribute to two of the best things about California. I live within a half-hour of three of the missions... San Juan Bautista, Carmel, and Soledad. Sadly, those citrus groves down in Orange County are few and far between now... making room for Dizzyland and houses.

Beautiful illustration.

Fabulous, Valerie! I notice a particular sensitivity when illustrators tap into childhood memories for content. It's like a mini visit back to a loving world. I always love your entries but this one in particular speaks to me! Thanks for the zap of good vibe to start my day!
