My submission for Illustration Friday's "superstition" is a dimensional painting called " Angel's Flight". I made this for a little girl, the parents wanted each child to have an original in their bedroom. They live in Seattle and I never actually met them or got to see the house and rooms but the paintings have symbolism for each child. The little girl is Samia, her name is Aramaic and means listener. But they stressed Roses and angels. Hence the roses framing the scene.
In the days of old, superstition indicates something standing above or set above. One of my favourite superstitions from Scotland is " If Children pile cabbage stalks around the doors and windows of the house on Halloween, the fairies bring them a new brother or sister."

Such a beautiful piece, Val. I love how you use interesting borders in your pieces. That's a lucky little girl to have this hanging in her room. Charming superstition as well (that goodness I'm past the cabbage thing working).

I am always impressed with parents that buy art for their children. It is amazing! my mom couldn't afford to do something like that but she always encouraged my creativity in all the ways. My mother had a friend Janus and she was an artist who did lovely watercolors and it left a really big impression on me when she gave my mom one of her paintings as a gift. I was about 10 and I already knew I wanted to be an artist but she made it seem very real!

Hi darling friend,was up and about and wonted to stop in for a visit.having bueatful weather here the last few days and was able to take walks,do some art and get Christmas decorating and Thanksgiving menu planned.The x and his wife have send over plates of food and I am really enjoying theses last few days,hope the continue!Havent had any nausea or tiredness!even got some art done and on ebay.took me a spell to just sit in my MaMa's old rocker and enjoy the afternoon.have a great weekend.xxoo

Oh, what a lovely painting and idea! I'm so glad my kids haven't heard that superstition, or we'd be up to our ears in cabbage leaves. (and I can't fit more than three kids in my car, so they're out of luck!)
