I feel happy that many of the people that collect my dimensional paintings usually say "Do what you want to do". I love that but have learned that there can be that very small percentage of folks that can be "difficult to please" :) This has prompted me to always make a little colour study or maquette of the image so that they can have a chance to decide they like or change my vision. This is a little (very rough) colour pencil study for a dimensional piece I have been commissioned to create and I am pretty excited because this is a place that we drove up to quite by accident and discovered and I always felt it would make a lovely place to paint. My submission for Illustration Friday's "Ripple" theme is titled "The Secret Fountain".

Illustration Friday: Ripple

Do you catch my drift? My submission for Illustration Friday's "adrift" theme is a colour pencil study on StoneHenge paper and the frame is clay and resin. Eventually this boat will drift and be adrift...

Illustration Friday: adapt
My submission for Illustration Friday's "adapt" theme is a colour study (prismacolor on Arches) called "Cat House". This is a piece I made in 1989 and a guy that collected my art had to have it so this is a scan of a 35 milimeter slide and this accounts for the quality of the image... We all need to embrace our differences and adapt to our surroundings.

Illustration Friday: "Emergency"
My submission for Illustration Friday's "Emergency" is a colour-pencil study for the painting "Homeward Bound" featuring my dog Rat. The emergency that we are all faced with is over building. Yes, I love buildings but all of this constant building, subdivisions and mini mansions and the like are pushing all the wildlife out and wiping away the face of our towns. I'm afraid it is a big emergency! I posted a painting of this for IF here but sometimes I make a colour pencil version first to flesh out the idea. I find using pencils a soothing form of relaxation. You can listen to a movie or music and colour away. I also reversed the image which I love to do so I can see it both ways. Happy Friday!
